Scholarship-Holders' Presentations: Silla Ibrahim, Central African Republic, ADA University

On November 23, with the organization of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, an online presentation was held about the Central African Republic (CAR) by Silla Ibrahim, a computer science bachelor’s degree student at ADA University studying in Azerbaijan within the framework of the educational grant program for citizens of the member states of the OIC and the NAM. About 400 students from secondary schools of Baku, Absheron-Khizi, Ganja-Dashkasan, Nagorno Shirvan, Shirvan-Salyan, Shaki-Zagatala and Central Aran zones took part in the meeting. The first part of the meeting was dedicated to Silla Ibrahim’s presentation about the Central African Republic, and the second part was devoted to questions. The students addressed their questions about CAR to the foreign student and received his answers with great interest. The webinar was broadcasted live on the Teams platform. A meeting was held with the grant holders

A meeting was held with a group of citizens of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) who received the right to study in our country within the framework of the education grant programs of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the 2022-2023 academic year. The meeting was held with the participation of heads and responsible persons of the relevant structural divisions of the Ministries of Science and Education and Foreign Affairs. In addition to the educational grant winners, representatives of Azerbaijan Medical University, Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, Azerbaijan Languages ​​University, ADA University, Azerbaijan Technical University, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Baku State University, Baku Engineering University, and Khazar University also participated in the meeting. Tural Ahmadov, the head of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Science and Education, Muzhdat Hasanov, the head of the Study Abroad and International Student Affairs Unit of the department, and Aliya Aghazade, the deputy head of the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, shared the necessary information about the education grant programs with foreign students and answered their questions. It should be noted that foreign students study in local educational institutions within the framework of educational grant programs established by the relevant decrees of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Thus, in 2018-2022, within the framework of around 200 scholarship programs for citizens of the member states of the OIC and the NAM, foreign students got the right to study at the bachelor's, basic higher medical education, master's, residency, and doctoral levels in local educational institutions. The education grant covers tuition fees, visa, registration, monthly stipend, medical assistance, and international transportation expenses paid by the government. In the 2022-2023 academic year, 40 students had the opportunity to study in local higher education institutions within the framework of educational grants.

The number of foreign students studying in Azerbaijan has reached 8819 students representing 110 countries in the academic year 2022-23

In the 2022-23 academic year, 8,819 foreigners and stateless persons from 110 countries are studying in higher and secondary specialized educational institutions in Azerbaijan. Students mainly represent Türkiye, Iran, Georgia, Pakistan, Russia, Nigeria, India, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Syria, and other countries. Azerbaijan Medical University, Nakhchivan State University, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, Azerbaijan State Economic University, Azerbaijan State Agrarian University, Azerbaijan Architecture, and Construction University, Baku Eurasia University, Baku State University, Azerbaijan State University University of Culture and Arts, Azerbaijan Technical University are the ones having a higher number of foreign students. For the current academic year, in addition to those who want to study in our country at the expense of self-funds, foreign citizens were also admitted to study at the expense of the state budget. Thus, 40 citizens of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states (20 people for each grant program) received the right to study in various local educational institutions within the framework of educational grant programs established by the decrees of the President of the country. At the same time, within the framework of intergovernmental agreements, 41 citizens of China, 4 citizens of Kazakhstan, and 1 citizen of Tajikistan benefited from the opportunity to study in our country.  There is a 20% increase in the number of foreign students compared to the last academic year (7332), and a 103% increase compared to the 2015-16 academic year (4326). In comparison with the last year, 16 new countries have been represented by foreign students and the number of countries has increased from 102 to 110 in the current academic year. It should be noted that starting from the current academic year, as a continuation of the work carried out in the direction of expanding and promoting opportunities for foreigners to study in our country, a centralized e-application service ("SIACAS: Study in Azerbaijan Centralized E-Application Service") has been given to use on the portal.edu.az system. So, the students who got the right to study in the 2022-23 academic year applied through the relevant service. The admission to preparatory courses for foreign citizens who know the language of instruction poorly is being continued. The activities carried out to support the work of educational institutions, which are the main executors of the reception and organization of education of foreigners, are further expanded.

On November 2, with the organization of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, an online presentation was held about Malawi by Emmanuel Mhango, a computer science master’s degree student at Baku State University studying in Azerbaijan within the framework of the educational grant program for citizens of the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. About 300 students from schools of Baku, Absheron-Khizi, Ganja-Dashkasan, Nagorno Shirvan, and Central Aran zones took part in the meeting.
