Foreign student: “I have many friends in Azerbaijan.”
As the AzEdu.az Education Portal, we present a series of interviews with international students studying in Azerbaijan.
The main purpose of these conversations is to understand how they evaluate education in our country, their impressions of Azerbaijan, their satisfaction with the conditions created for international students, and any challenges they may face.
Our next interview in the "International Student" section of our website features a student from Bangladesh.
Background: Bangladesh was established in the territory of former East Pakistan. It became an independent state on March 26, 1971, and was officially organized as a country on December 16, 1971. It borders India to the north, west, and east, Myanmar to the southeast, and the Bay of Bengal to the south. Its capital and largest city is Dhaka, and the total area is 147,570 square kilometers.
The foundation of its economy is agriculture, with rice production being the most significant sector. The currency is "Taka."
Here is our conversation with Abid Hasan, who is currently studying business administration at Baku Higher Oil School.
-Abid, could you please introduce yourself to our readers?
- Of course. My name is Abid Hasan, and I am from Bangladesh. I am currently pursuing an MBA at Baku Higher Oil School. Previously, I participated in numerous national and international conferences and competitions. I also worked with two international organizations, one of which was DobriMir, a welfare organization recognized by the Russian government. I received a scholarship award from them based on my social activities. I also enjoy learning new things.
- Why did you decide to study in Azerbaijan?
- Because Azerbaijan is a highly multicultural country. As a result, many business organizations and corporations are established here, which allows students to acquire new and practical business knowledge. For these reasons, I decided to pursue higher education in Azerbaijan.
- What factors did you consider when choosing a university in Azerbaijan?
- My university, Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS), is very reputable and well-known in Azerbaijan. At BHOS, most of the classes are taught by experienced professionals from various companies. This allows us to gain practical business knowledge and experience. That’s why I chose BHOS.
- What do you do in your free time? What are your hobbies?
- Normally, I participate in many seminars and online courses during my free time. I also enjoy engaging in sports, watching TED Talks, and keeping up with the news on TV.
- Do you receive financial support from any organization?
- Yes, I am studying for my master’s degree at BHOS on a full scholarship provided by the Heydar Aliyev Educational Grant for international students.
- Do you have Azerbaijani friends?
- Yes, I have many local friends. I enjoy meeting new people.
- Do you feel like a foreigner in Azerbaijan?
- Generally, Azerbaijani people are very respectful toward foreigners. However, I occasionally face language barriers in local markets and other public places.
- Do you plan to return to your home country and work in your field? Why?
- After completing my master’s degree, I plan to return to my country and work at the Ministry of Industry and Trade. I aim to utilize my theoretical knowledge in business to develop our economy and strengthen business relations with Azerbaijan.
- What is your favorite dish in Azerbaijani cuisine?
- I love various cakes and bread.
- What motivated you to choose your field of study?
- To gain business knowledge from a global trade hub like Azerbaijan.
- How do you envision yourself in the future? What are your goals?
- The future is uncertain, but everyone should have a vision. That’s why I have my mission for the future. I strive to fulfill my mission to reach the pinnacle of success. Specifically, I aim to serve my country as a business leader at the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Bangladesh. I aspire to achieve the highest position where I can facilitate the implementation of various business policies.
- What advice would you give to young people considering studying in Azerbaijan?
- I would certainly encourage my fellow citizens to prioritize Azerbaijan as their top destination for higher education due to its diversity, cultural richness, and excellent educational opportunities.
